According to Stephen Pickering, the Band performed this song with Dylan backing on harp and guitar. Pickering's report is often disputed, but other once-challenged parts of his account of that concert were confirmed when a nearly-complete tape surfaced 25 years later. On March 23, 1975, Dylan was part of a performing ensemble, along with Neil Young and several members of the Band, which performed the song at a benefit concert in San Francisco. Dylan finally contributed noticeable vocals to the song during a walkon appearance with Levon Helm at the Lone Star Cafe in New York City, May 29, 1988. |
